Is there a Definitive Solution to Vaginal Relaxation and Dryness?

Menopause: Is there a definitive solution to vaginal relaxation and dryness?

During the menopause, a decrease in female sex hormones, particularly oestrogen, causes major changes in women’s bodies, including irritation, hot flushes and vaginal relaxation and dryness.

Oestrogen is a hormone that, among other functions, is responsible for keeping the tissue of the vagina lubricated and healthy, but when its levels decrease, the mucosa of the intimate area becomes affected, leading to vaginal relaxation and dryness, which can present as

  • A burning sensation while urinating (vaginal dryness).
  • Pain during sexual intercourse and even, in some cases, minor bleeding (vaginal dryness).
  • Pain, burning or a stinging sensation in the vagina (vaginal dryness).
  • Loss of vaginal tone, which, in many cases, can cause stress urinary incontinence, the leakage of small amounts of urine when laughing, coughing or exercising (vaginal relaxation).
  • Loss of sexual feelings (vaginal relaxation and dryness).

Certain complications can also occur, such as:

  • Increased risk of contracting fungal and vaginal infections.
  • Fissures in the vaginal wall.

As well as these physical symptoms, reduced oestrogen levels during the menopause can also have an impact on the emotional behaviour of women, resulting in insecurities and low self-esteem, and directly affecting their psychological wellbeing and love life.

Until recently, treatment did not offer a definitive solution; it was based on the application of creams and lubricants, hormone therapy or, in the case of vaginal relaxation, surgery. That was, however, before INTERmedic developed GynelaseTM, a method that treats vaginal dryness and also corrects vaginal relaxation safely and effectively on an outpatient basis without the need for a visit to the operating theatre.

How does GynelaseTM solve these female intimate health problems?

Laser energy is deposited throughout the vaginal wall without the heat damaging the tissue, stimulating the formation of new collagen in the mucosa, submucosa and endopelvic fascia.
